Mr Peter Patmore AM Chairman, Southern Cross Care (Tasmania) Inc. (Released February 28, 2006) Southern Cross Care (Tasmania) Inc. appreciates the opportunity of pursuing the option of developing independent living apartments and villas on the Mount St Canice site. The board has viewed this concept as one with many challenges but does represent exciting options. We have engaged what we believe to be the best and most appropriately skilled advisors to ensure that sensitivity and indeed enhancement of the Heritage Building will be both maintained and evident to all. Only three years ago we opened a green field site in Youngtown, offering similar types of accommodation. It was duly named Glenara Lakes and while still not fully developed, has surpassed all our expectations in the first three years. We have just completed a merger with Ainslie House Association, a leading Northern Tasmanian aged care provider, effective from the first of this month. I am confident with the expertise of a dynamic Board that Southern Cross Care can not only maintain its fine record as developer and operator of facilities such as this but further demonstrate the leadership status in our industry that we inspire to achieve. We believe with our expertise and depth of resources that a revitalised Mount St Canice, integrated with the existing residential care facility, can very much become a desired address for many Hobart residents. The three-stage development, with up to 69 apartment and villa units, will employ over 100 construction staff. The total development will be in excess of $30 million, which we believe will represent the largest single investment to establish an aged care facility in Hobart. |
