Info:

The Mount Esk property was purchased in early 1950 on behalf of the Sisters of Nazareth, who had expressed the desire to set up a nursing home in Tasmania. The Sisters of Nazareth arrived in Tasmania on 17th of April 1950 to take possession and Nazareth House was opened on the 24th of May 1950. On the 4th of December 1950 extension work to the original homestead commenced and a foundation stone was laid. In 1992 extentions were commenced on the East wing and in 1995 major extentions to North and South Wings were completed.

In March 2002 it was announced that the sisters of Nazareth would be leaving Tasmania. On the 1st of July 2002, Nazareth House began its second life as Mount Esk under the stewardship of Southern Cross Care (Tasmania) Inc.

In 2003 an extensive refurbishment program was initiated to raise Mt Esk to the contemporary standards expected in aged care. Mt Esk offers an attractive, sunny position with pleasant semi-rural vistas, close to shops and transport and a range of accommodation most with ensuite facilities.
